5.      CHAIRMAN’S REPORT

I have now been Chairman of the ACG for 17 years and am prepared to stand again. There will be some major changes to the Officers for 2005, as several of the current officers are standing down. I would like to thank the following Officers for their hard work much of it behind the scenes -

Elaine Johnson: Librarian since 1996, Treasurer since 2001 and Joint Secretary (with Hugh) since 2003

Hugh Tucker: Journal Editor since 2002 and Joint Secretary (with Elaine) since 2003

Simon Moth: Tackle Warden & Caving Secretary since 2003

Paul Hodgson: Rescue Co-ordinator since 1991.

This major change to the Officer’s List will be advantageous to the club since the workload will be shouldered by more people.

A round up of the past years events –

A new dig in the Rift on Axbridge Hill which is progressing well

The initial survey of Sandford Hill (27 sites located) – much more work to be done.

The loss of several members due to the crazy insurance scheme

170 Aerial photographs of Western Mendips are now in the club Library

Excellent club trip to Milwr Tunnels in North Wales

The discovery of Sandford Quarry Mine – still to be dug.

Screening of the HTV series ‘Secret Underground’ which ACG members were involved

Old club tackle disposed of and new tackle purchased

Door Open Day at Redcliffe Caves was a great success with £630 being added to club funds

New ACG web site – thanks to Chris Davies

The start of the project to put all ACG publications, films etc on DVDs.

Redcliffe Caves 45 tours in 2004 – nearly one a week!

The dig in Carcass now has a monorail installed, and a large new chamber was found

Templetons dig is still going well

Thanks to all.

Alan Gray.

6.       SECRETARY & ACCESS OFFICER’S REPORT

Thanks to Alan for preparing meeting notes on disc so that I just have to amend them and add to them each month without having to start from scratch. It makes the secretary’s job a lot easier.

I have enjoyed being Secretary. It is a job which involves a fair bit of communication with the Treasurer (who I found was most helpful wonderful and nice) so having both jobs was an advantage at times. I hope I did the job justice, and I would be quite happy to do it for another year. However, I only want one committee post at the most, and I don’t think anyone is prepared to take on the library – are they?
