three leads. One up a tight rift, one up another tight rift and the third one in the floor. An excellent weekend’s exploration. This new chamber about forty feet long and standing height, justifies our year of infrastructure work.

Mick, Doug, Bill, Martin, Kevin, Alan and Chris back for some more; this will be our last dig till next year. We have mainly been excavating along a tight tube, in the floor of the new chamber, (as yet unnamed). This new tunnel is three metres long, we can see along for another three metres but the way on is blocked by a large slab of rock, air very fresh but no draught.

Kevin says Carcass Cave is now 150 metres in length, that makes it about the 60th longest Mendip cave; not bad for a badger hole!

I have been promised a copy of the new survey of Carcass Cave by BDCC. Hopefully this will appear in the next issue of the Journal.

CONVERT A STANDARD CAP LAMP TO A 21 LED CAP LAMP FOR LESS THAN £7

Alan Gray

Introduction

I was informed that on E-bay a 12 LED headlamp suitable for camping, climbing and caving was for sale for £6. Whilst looking at this item I also noticed that the seller was selling 21 LED torches, for £6. 5O, so I purchased one of each. These were delivered, from Hong Kong in just 4 days with the cost of packing and postage included in the purchase price.

On receipt of the torch I was surprised to find that it was very well made, with an aluminium body and front lens cover. The light output was fantastic. Its dimensions are - Length 9.5cm, Diameter of lens 3.5cm. It is powered by three AAA size batteries that are supplied.
