I used the torch several times in Redcliffe Caves and it was more than adequate. I thought it would be suitable for caving but would have to be fitted in a waterproof housing. The circuit board and the LED assembly is contained within the front 1.25cm of the torch so I thought that it would fit inside a standard caving cap lamp housing.

The Conversion Procedure

1. Unscrew the body of the torch from the front assembly and remove the batteries.

2. Using a junior hacksaw very carefully and accurately cut around the line at is 1.25cm from the front of the torch. File around the circumference to remove the burr.

3. Solder a 5cm long red lead to the centre terminal of the circuit board. At the other end of this lead solder on a small eyelet terminal connector. This is the positive (+) lead.

4. Solder a 5cm long blue lead to the centre terminal of the circuit board. At the other end of this lead solder on a small eyelet terminal connector. This is the negative (-) lead.
