Alan and Doug and Later Chris took a reporter from the Western Daily Press taking photos inside the cave. The feature should be published on Friday the 29th July 2005.

Digging started again in Shute Shelve Cavern. This weekend 'Rock Crusher' Doug and 'Stone Lobber' Alan hammered large boulders and opened up the hole down into elm street while 'Knackered' Chris meandered building up the precarious wall of rubble and stones above them. The difference is stunning leading the way to more digging later.

The Rift Dig on Shute Shelve Hill
Near the top of Shute Shelve Hill is a rift that was excavated by the ochre miners in the 1920’s. In November 2000 the ACG started digging this site. The natural fill, left by the miners, has now been passed and we are into natural cave passage. The dig is now 9m deep and extends under the left had wall of the rift by 4m. There is still a large quantity of mud infill to remove but the dig looks promising as there are large scallops in the cave wall and what could be a rift, partially buried in the mud, at the bottom.
